Wa-kesho envisions a society where women are socially and economically empowered and works to become a leading organization in empowering women and the girl child through skills transfer and income-generating activities.
What We Do
Building Skills for Sustainable Livelihoods
Wa-kesho provides vocational and trade skills training designed to equip beneficiaries with practical skills and opportunities for economic empowerment.
Our core areas include:
- Tailoring and dress making
- Virgin coconut oil making
- IT and computer skills
- Detergent making
- Cake baking
- Basic business management skills
Beneficiaries undertaking tailoring and dress making sit for a national trade test administered by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
1,140 Girls Trained
Girls have successfully undergone training as dress makers and graduated after passing the related Grade 3 examination administered by the Government of Kenya.
75% Building Livelihoods
Of those trained in dress making, 75% are doing dress making as a livelihood.
50 Beneficiaries Annually
The dress-making program has grown from its initial seven beneficiaries to a capacity of 50 beneficiaries annually.
Making a Difference
Our Impact
Since its establishment, Wa-kesho has empowered women and girls through practical skills training and income-generating opportunities. More than 1,140 girls have successfully completed dressmaking training, with 75% using their skills to earn a livelihood. From humble beginnings with seven beneficiaries and seven sewing machines, the organization has grown to support more girls in building skills, confidence, and sustainable futures.
Current Activities
Supporting Children Living with Disabilities
Wa-Kesho currently works with one of the largest special schools in the world, supporting a community of 1,700 children living with different forms of disability. Through this work, we contribute to creating opportunities, inclusion, and support for children with diverse needs.
